Gujarat, 2002 - While the state burnt, far away, in Los Angeles, a budding filmmaker faced a turmoil within himself. He felt both morally and socially responsible for the tragedy and wished to do his part, through a film. With the help of his two other friends based in the United States, he raised the money to tell a story. A story we know as Parzania (Heaven and Hell on Earth).
Rahul Dholakia, Director-Producer-Screenwriter, kicked-off his career by working in his father’s advertising agency. He shadowed Producer Babla Sen of Channel 4, London, as a production assistant. Ten documentaries later, he would introduce himself as Rahul Dholakia-Producer.
As a Producer, in 1990, he moved to New York, where, after completing his masters in filmmaking from the New York Institute of Technology settled in Corona, California. After a few documentaries (Teenage Parents and New York Taxi Drivers to name a few), commercials, and a television station (TV Asia), he ventured into the world of feature films.
In 2006, he directed the critically acclaimed Parzania (Heaven and Hell on Earth), which not only won him the National Award for Best Direction, but also the Ramnath Goenka Memorial Award in 2008.
Rahul has also worked on several other features, starring celebrities of all grades, each achieving an individual milestone. His next feature is with none other than the King Khan of Bollywood. Raees is an intense, power-packed film set in the background of the riots in the 1980s in Gujarat.
With the eagerly awaited, Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees in the pipeline, and the powerful Parzania behind him, Rahul is all set to take stage in the world of advertising as a Q.E.D. Exclusive!
Amit Masurkar is a writer and a film-maker. He has the first ever stand up comedy sketch show in India to his credit. After having written for such path-breaking concepts; writing for movies followed naturally. Although, he claims that the rib-tickling bromance of two writers in Bollywood, Sulemani Keeda, which was his directorial debut is not inspired by his life in Bollywood!
Sulemani Keeda was critically acclaimed worldwide by the likes of Roger Avary (from the Pulp Fiction fame), Farhan Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt and more. The film that was written and directed by Amit is a refreshing slacker-comedy and was the most awaited film in the year of it’s release. It has been screened at film festivals around the world in the indie film-fest circuit, before it’s release.
Amit who is juggling between feature films and advertisements is now completing the post-production of his next feature, Newton. Newton stars Rajkumar Rao and showcases a black comedy set in the jungles of the Naxalite-taken over Chattisgarh on one fateful day of the state election. Like Amit, his films deliver much more than they already promise and Newton is already garnering all the attention.
Amit comes from a family that had nothing to do with making film. A man who set out to become an engineer, now has feature films, TV shows and short films even to his credit. He is the young and buzzing reflection of the neo-ad industry and is all set to take stage in the ad world as a Q.E.D. Exclusive!
